Learn how to make a toe up sock by making a Christmas Stocking.  If you can knit and purl “fluently”, this class will be the perfect sock segue.    No Gauge Guilt.  No Second Sock Syndrome.  No perfectionism required.  This pattern is extremely beginner friendly.  

 

This pattern was designed specifically for this class by Jodie.  At the end of the class, each participant will be given a modification to the pattern which will let you to make adult socks with the same technique, needles and fabulous self patterning Encore yarn that will be used in this class. 

 

Sign up early.  Class size is limited to nine people.   Bring a sack lunch or purchase food on the square.

Session 1

v   Select and purchase materials

v   Teach Provisional Cast On

v   Teach Short Row Toe

v   Teach how to knit the foot using circular needles

 

Assignment:   knit the foot.

 

Session 2

v     Review short row technique and turn the heel

v     Begin cuff

v     Discuss cuff options for women’s socks.

 

Assignment:   work cuff until it is 10 inches long (end before eyelet row).

Assignment:   acquire 1 yard decorative wire cord (or ribbon if cord cannot be found).

 

Session 3

v     Teach eyelet row

v     Complete stocking

v     Give participants the woman’s pattern and discuss differences

v     Assist with yarn/needle selection for woman’s sock pattern.

v     Determine interest in course follow-up—“The Joy of Socks”
